Wastewater Treatment

Operations

Eco Detection’s Ion-Q+ technology is a cutting-edge, cost-effective and highly efficient solution for wastewater treatment plants looking to:

  • Monitor ammonium, nitrate, nitrite and phosphate across the plant operations
  • Obtain frequent and reliable water monitoring data, automatically
  • Allocate resources away from servicing and maintaining monitoring equipment
  • Adopt the latest technology to optimise aeration control from ammonium data

The Challenges

Water utilities are facing a growing challenge: optimise the operation of WWTP assets against a backdrop of net zero emission targets and continue to improve the effluent discharged.

Obtaining reliable data across all sections of the plant can be a major challenge to enable informed decisions to be taken. Monitoring raw influent N and P loads can assist in plant load predictive modelling. Ammonium measurements across aeration tanks can provide insight on the performance of the activated sludge and for optimizing the aeration operation.

As the population grows, the demands placed on WWTPs continue to increase, and many older plants struggle to cope. Additionally, climate change contributes to higher sewer system Infiltration and Inflow (I&I), which leads to surges in influent and exacerbates these challenges.

However, traditional methods, such as manual grab sampling and laboratory analysis are increasingly impractical due to resource constraints, delay in obtaining data for immediate reconciliation of daily operations and the high costs associated with frequent sampling.

The Benefits

Unique technology is self-calibrating, providing forensic grade data.

Data is fed directly into plant SCADA for quick feedback on the plant operations.

Multi-parameter monitoring for plant operations and chemical addition.

Ability to monitor immediately post primary filtration for insight on sewer system Infiltration and Inflow (I&I), and effects of climate-related surges in influent.
